Just a Joba well done

By the time Jose Molina got conked in the right knee and the Yankees had their walk-off win over the Athletics, visions of Joba Chamberlain on the mound had evaporated quicker than a drop of water in yesterday's Mojave Desert-type heat.

"I just told somebody, I feel like I pitched yesterday," Chamberlain said.

Yes, Chamberlain's solid outing was a distant memory and somewhat lost in the 12-inning affair. He was effective, tossing six innings and allowing one run and six hits. He struck out eight, walked one and also hit a batter. But he had nothing to show for it, getting handed a no-decision for the seventh time in nine starts.

"At the end of the day, I pitched six innings and gave my team a quality start," said Chamberlain, whose run support dropped to a paltry 3.5 runs per game. "That's all you can ask. The other pitcher did a good job of getting out of jams and you've got to tip your hat to him. He fought, and battled, and clawed and only gave up two. At the end of the day, it's what you did and just try to keep your team in the game."
